Birds & Beans Traditional Coffee Tour

Description: Experience the century-old artisanal way of harvesting coffee beans while visiting a real small family farm. This is a hands-on experience where you will pick, grind and roast your own beans and get to taste some of the smoothest coffee in the world! This tour guarantees red beans for picking year-round and it is hosted at a local family farm, not a large commercial coffee plantation. 

With over 200 recorded species, this forest reserve and adjacent shade-grown coffee plantations offer abundant birdlife that is easy to spot with the naked eye, making it a prime site for nature photography.
 

Note: We began this tour back in 2013 when few people even knew that coffee plants were harvested around Bogotá. We are the first coffe tour in the region. Don't miss out!

Availability: This tour is available every day of the year except December 25th and January the 1st. We ask however, that during the months of December, January, February, you email us or whatsApp us to verify availability before making your purchase ;)

Difficulty: The coffee plantation itself is womewhat uneven terrain but the rest of the coffee process is accesible to everyone on flat grounds

Accessibility: This tour is for all ages. You must inform us before departure if anyone joining is younger than 3 or older than 80. It is also available should you have limited mobility or a visual/hearing impairment.

Duration: The tour usully lasts 10 hours from start to finish with about 4 hours spent in the coffee farms and at various points of interest.

Departure: This tour departs from our meeting point at the Bogotá Marriot Hotel (Av. El Dorado #69 B-53). We offer pick-up & drop-off at an extra cost.
Note: Minors under 3 that are held by an adult in the vehicle do not have to pay  but you MUST let us know ahead of time.

Location: This tour takes you to the coffee lands surrounding Bogotá in the nearby coffee town of Silvania and Tibacuy. The coffee farm is located about 2.5 hours from our meeting point in Bogotá. 

Elevation: The coffee farm sits at 1700 m.a.s.l. 

Weather: The average temperature in the coffee lands is 24ºC. We experience light rain about 30% of the time and heavy rain 10% of the time.

Includes: Private transport from Bogotá, Spanish-speaking guide, entrance to the coffee farm and local vegetarian lunch.

  • Pickup in Bogotá early in the morning (it could be you and additional parties).
  • Drive through the south side of the city (2.5 hours)
  • Participate in the traditional production of coffee from start to finish: picking, grinding, roasting, filtering and tasting (2.5 hours)
  • Traditionally cooked, local vegetarian lunch (30 min)
  • Drive back to Bogotá (2.5 hours)
