Private day tour to Alexandria from Cairo

Cairo to Alexandria :

Departing early in the morning drive north towards the Mediterranean coast to the cosmopolitan city of Alexandria, which in its founding days was at the center of the Ancient World, and at times rivaled the great cities of Athens and Rome. Although today Alexandria is a thriving metropolis you can still find evidence of its prestigious past, as hip cafes and restaurants sit side-by-side with ancient monuments, vibrant souks, and Roman catacombs.
Heading underground explore the ancient Kom al-Shoqafa catacombs. The vast network of staircases, passages, and tombs are thought to form the largest Roman burial site in Egypt and was only unearthed at the beginning of the 20th century when a donkey disappeared under the ground. The next stop is at Pompey’s Pillar, a monolithic red granite column standing 28 meters tall, before driving past the new Library of Alexandria, to the gates of the grand Montaza Palace. Later visit the exterior of the Citadel of Qaitbay, a massive 15th-century defense fort built on the northern tip of Pharos Island, before beginning the drive back to Cairo.
