The Lost River

Venture deep into the heart of the Eastern Hajar Mountains on one of Oman’s most unique and challenging adventures. The Lost River combines kayaking, hiking, canyon exploration, and wild camping into an unforgettable three-day expedition through the spectacular landscapes of Wadi Dayqah.
 

Your adventure begins with a scenic 7 km paddle along the Lost River, navigating through dramatic mountain scenery and remote waterways rarely seen by visitors. From there, leave the kayaks behind and embark on a rewarding 13 km trek through rugged terrain, hidden pools, and breathtaking canyons before reaching your remote wilderness campsite.
 

Designed for adventurous travelers with a good level of fitness, this expedition offers the perfect combination of exploration, challenge, and natural beauty. Experience wild camping under the stars, enjoy campfire dinners, and discover one of Oman’s most spectacular off-the-beaten-track destinations.

Location

Day 1 – Into the Wilderness

  • Meet at Husaak Center, Muscat at 2:00 PM for a trip briefing
  • Drive approximately 1.5 hours to Wadi Dayqah
  • Begin your Lost River adventure with a scenic kayaking journey
  • Arrive at the first wilderness campsite
  • Set up camp and relax in the stunning surroundings
  • Enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner under the stars
  • Overnight wild camping

Day 2 – The Lost River Expedition

  • Wake up with sunrise and enjoy breakfast at camp
  • Continue kayaking approximately 7 km through the Lost River
  • Transition from water to land and begin a challenging 13 km hike
  • Traverse rugged mountain terrain and hidden canyon landscapes
  • Stop along the way to cool off in refreshing natural pools
  • Enjoy a packed lunch in the wilderness
  • Reach the second remote campsite in the late afternoon
  • Gather around the campfire and enjoy a well-earned dinner
  • Overnight wild camping

Day 3 – Journey Home

  • Enjoy breakfast at camp surrounded by mountain scenery
  • Pack up camp and reflect on the adventure
  • Begin the return journey to Muscat
  • Arrive back at Husaak Center at approximately 2:00 PM
