Extreme: The Ocean Floor

Step into a world shaped over 100 million years ago, where towering canyon walls whisper stories of an ancient ocean. Once submerged beneath the sea, this remote wadi reveals exposed rock layers and marine features that make you feel like you’re walking on the ocean floor.
 

Your adventure begins with a 2.5 km hike leading to the first abseil a 20-meter drop into the heart of the canyon, followed by a dramatic 50-meter descent. From there, the journey intensifies with over a dozen technical abseils and ascents, as well as canyoning, hiking, and bouldering through raw, untouched terrain.
 

The canyon itself is breathtaking its walls sculpted by time, its textures and embedded features unlike anything you've seen. As you reach the final abseil, you'll land beside a hidden freshwater spring that sustains an entire village farm a powerful and serene end to an unforgettable route.
 

Challenging, remote, and rarely explored, this is a route for experienced adventurers seeking something truly special.

Packing List
The Essentials: Ankle support hiking boots, thick woolen socks, (20L - 30 litre) hiking rucksack, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, headlights (with spare batteries), thick trousers as the rocks are very sharp and can rip leggings etc, a spare set of clean clothing, reusable insulated water bottle (2l), Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Nice to Have: Hat, sunglasses, gloves for summertime (Rocks can get hot), lip balm, bug spray/ repellent, camera / gopro with chargers, extra batteries, toiletries, fresh clothes, sandals / flipflops for the camp

  • Arrive at Husaak Center for a trip briefing

  • Depart for the remote Salmah Plateau

  • Set up camp on arrival

  • Enjoy a fire-cooked dinner under the stars

Day 2:

  • Early morning wake-up and hearty breakfast

  • Pack up camp and begin the canyon hike (approx. 8 hours)

  • Return to camp after the trek

  • Unwind with a delicious grilled dinner

Day 3:

  • Morning wake-up and break down camp

  • Return journey to Muscat
