Jebel Shams Balcony Walk & Via Ferrata

This 3-day adventure blends breathtaking canyon views, ancient mountain villages, wild camping under the stars, and an unforgettable climbing challenge on the Via Ferrata (200m vertical ascent).
 

From sunset walks on canyon edges to swimming in refreshing mountain pools, this trip is designed for those seeking a deeper connection with nature, adventure, and the raw beauty of Oman’s highest landscapes.


The trip is not very challenging but does require a decent level of physical fitness and endurance.

Trip Notes: Mixed-gender trip, wild camping, moderate fitness required, not suitable for those afraid of heights



Packing List

Essentials:

Hiking boots with ankle support, thick wool hiking socks, microfibre towel, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, headlamp with spare batteries, dry-fit hiking clothing (t-shirts/shorts/leggings), sandals for camp, hat, sunglasses, reusable water bottle (2L).

Nice to Have:

Gloves (rocks may get hot), sunscreen & lip balm, bug spray, camera / GoPro with chargers & spare batteries, toiletries, fresh clothes.


Note: Sleeping bag & Mat available for rent @ OMR 15.

Location

Day 1 – Journey to the Heights

  • Meet at Husaak Center, Muscat (1:00 PM)
  • Depart on a scenic 3.5-hour drive to Jebel Shams
  • Arrive at the “Mountain of the Sun” with dramatic canyon views
  • Set up wild camp in the highlands
  • BBQ dinner under the stars
  • Overnight camping in the mountains

Day 2 – Balcony Walk & Via Ferrata Challenge

  • Wake up and have breakfast at camp
  • Start the Balcony Walk along the edge of Oman’s Grand Canyon
  • Explore ancient abandoned villages and terraced farms
  • Reach the Via Ferrata section
  • Safety briefing and gearing up with climbing equipment
  • Complete the 200m vertical Via Ferrata climb in stages
  • Return to camp and enjoy dinner under the stars
  • Second night wild camping in the mountains

Day 3 – Wadi Damm & Return to Muscat

  • Breakfast at camp and pack up
  • Depart towards Wadi Damm oasis
  • Swim and relax in natural freshwater pools
  • Free time to unwind in the wadi
  • Begin journey back to Muscat
  • Arrive with unforgettable memories of mountains, canyons & adventure
