Italian Riviera: FGCU Family and Friends 2024
Saturday- Rapallo
The group will meet at Milano Centrale Train station in the morning to leave for the beautiful coastal city of Rapallo on the Italian Riviera.
Elegantly arranged on a graceful sweep of Italian coast, Rapallo offers ancient and literary history and stellar seafood, as well as the chance to immerse yourself in the loveliness of summertime Liguria without feeling overcrowded.
Literary luminaries such as W.B. Yeats and Ernest Hemingway lingered among the waterfront bars (Hemingway even based a short story on the town). The poet Ezra Pound had a public garden named for him after making Rapallo his home for over 20 years. He lived on Via Marsala, mere feet from the sun-baked promenade.
After a check in there will be time to go to the local beach/walk the promenade or see the artisans shops.
In the late afternoon, the group with gather for a local aperativo with snacks and a drink included.
Your guide will refer you to different restaurant options.
Sunday- Portofino
The group will have breakfast at the hotel before departing to Portofino, and San Fruttuoso by boat.
San Fruttuoso is a small fishing village located in a splendid bay on the slopes of the Portofino mountain in the Municipality of Camogli, reachable only by sea from Camogli and Rapallo, or on foot through the paths of the Portofino Park. An extraordinary place, dominated by the Abbey of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte.
Lavish Portofino is known for luring Italy's rich and famous. And, there's no better way to catch a view of the scene than by eating outdoors at the town's small square overlooking the ocean. Here, you can sample a coffee or a glass of local wine while you people-watch and enjoy the sight of fishing boats and luxury yachts in the harbor.
If you’re feeling ambitious, you could hike to the lighthouse, stopping at Castello Brown, which dates back to the Middle Ages but was later restored. It was actually owned by Genoa’s English consul from 1870 until 1961, when it opened to the public.
Exceptional scenery, lush vegetation and fine architecture make Portofino one of the most elegant and fascinating places in the Mediterranean.
We will depart in the afternoon to return to Rapallo.
