Experienced Horseback Riding
Description: Ride your horse up into the high Andes mountains of La Calera around the San Rafael dam. Enjoy a fun ride with spectacular views, green fields and lush sub-páramo forest vegetation.
Please note: Everyone joining this tour must wear a helmet in order to climb on the horse and keep it on at all times. Failure to wear a helmet is a safety violation and will cause the cancellation of the tour without refunds.
Availability: This tour is available every day of the year except December 25th and January the 1st. We ask however, that during the months of July and August you email us or whatsApp us to verify availability before making your purchase ;)
Difficulty: This trail, ONLY for experienced riders, takes 3 hours to complete along dirt roads and cobblestone pathways that go up the mountains through a majestic Andean forest and open green fields.
Note: Riding times are calculated at a horse's walking speed. Trotting with your horse will cut the riding time. Only one person is allowed per horse.
Accessibility: Anybody between the ages of 12 to 69 years-old can join. We are happy to arrange a customized ride should you have limited mobility or visual/hearing impairment.
Duration: The total tour time is 5 to 6 hours with 3 hours of horseback riding.
Departure: This tour departs from our meeting point at Parque 93. We also offer door to door pick-up & drop-off at an extra cost. Most pick-ups are scheduled before 9.00am.
Location: La Calera is a town located about 1 hour from Bogotá across the eastern Andes mountains.
Elevation: Maximum altitude on this trail is 2800 m.a.s.l.
Weather: The average temperature in La Calera is about 15 ºC. We experience light rain 30% of the time and heavy rain about 10% of the time. We suggest wearing long pants and a warm rain jacket. The wettest months are Abril, May, October and November. The driest months are January, February and March.

Route
A BogotáB La Calera

- Departure from Bogotá
- Drive up through the eastern mountains to La Calera (1 hour)
- Meet your local guide and set up for the ride
- Horseback riding through scenic mountain trails (3 hours)
- Try home made arepas (flatbread of ground maize dough and cheese) with agua-de-panela (sugarcane juice).
- Drive back to Bogotá (1 hour)
