Heights & Heritage : Jebel Shams Summit + Nizwa

Challenge yourself on an unforgettable journey to the summit of Jebel Shams, the highest mountain in Oman and the Gulf region. This rewarding three-day adventure combines mountain hiking, wild camping beneath star-filled skies, and a visit to the historic city of Nizwa, offering the perfect blend of nature, adventure, and culture.
 

Hike through the dramatic landscapes of the Western Hajar Mountains, reach the summit of the "Mountain of the Sun," and enjoy breathtaking views stretching across Oman’s rugged canyon landscapes. Spend two nights camping in the mountains, sharing stories around the campfire, before exploring the famous Nizwa Fort and traditional souq on your return journey.

Location

Day 1 – Journey to the Mountains

  • Meet at Husaak Center, Muscat at 1:00 PM
  • Trip briefing and equipment check
  • Depart on a scenic drive to Jebel Shams
  • Arrive at base camp in the late afternoon
  • Set up camp and enjoy the stunning mountain surroundings

Husaak offers the option of a complimentary tent or an outdoor camp bed for those wishing to sleep beneath the stars.

Day 2 – Summit Day

  • Early wake-up and breakfast
  • Transfer to the trailhead
  • Begin the summit hike

The trail climbs gradually towards the summit of Jebel Shams, covering approximately 10 km through dramatic mountain terrain and breathtaking viewpoints.

  • Reach the summit and celebrate your achievement at the highest point in the Gulf
  • Enjoy packed lunch and time to relax while taking in the views
  • Descend back to base camp
  • BBQ dinner around the campfire

Day 3 – Nizwa Heritage Experience

  • Breakfast at camp
  • Pack up camp and depart for Nizwa
