Hellesylt Private Excursion The Amazing Briksdal Glacier

DETAILS ABOUT THIS PRIVATE GUIDED DAY TOUR:

The excursion starts in Hellesylt, a small village with a spectacular waterfall, situated at the very end of the Sunnylvsfjord. We drive towards the lake of Hornindal, a picturesque lake that is also famous for being the deepest lake in Europe. On the way, we will stop to admire the Horndøla bridge, an interesting hand-built bridge dating back to the 19th century. The tour continues along the Nordfjord, passing through charming towns and villages of Stryn, Loen and Olden.

Our main destination will be the Briksdal glacier, an arm of the Jostedal glacier, which is the biggest glacier in continental Europe. Before reaching it, we’ll make yet another photo stop, this time on the shore of Lake Olden to admire one of the arms of theJostedal glacier. Many colorful houses, farms and waterfalls can be spotted on the way. 

The walk towards the Briksdal glacier starts at the Briksdalsbre Mountain Lodge, from where a well-marked trail surrounded by waterfalls and mountains, will guide you to the viewpoint at the glacier lake, allowing you to fully enjoy this amazing natural treasure. The walk to the viewpoint normally takes approximately 45-60 minutes. The first part of the trail is considered the most difficult. After that, the surface is relatively even and the hike becomes easier. 

After the lovely hike we will take a well-deserved break, savoring coffee or tea and something to eat in the delightful cafeteria located at Briksdalsbre Mountain Lodge.

After the hike, our comfortable coach will take you back to Hellesylt, where the tour started.

N.B. Important information for cruise ship guests: Before booking this excursion, please contact the ship you will be traveling on to make sure you will be allowed to disembark in Hellesylt.
