Wander

Hike along the fjord, climb beginner-friendly Via Ferrata and enjoy lunch with a view.

Wander – A different kind of hike

The Hornelen Via Ferrata will take you on a trip up our facility, without it needing to be too windy. The tour starts along the waterfront to our introduction wall. Here we strap on our equipment, and get a full introduction into Via Ferrata climbing.

After you have climbed the introduction wall and tested gravity, you continue up the steep stairs to our shelter. Here, your guide lights the campfire and prepares lunch with coffee and tea. Walk back to basecamp the same way, and can look back on a great day outside under the mighty Hornelen.

This is the trip for those who want a slightly longer hike with elements of Via Ferrata, as well as being served lunch with fantastic views. The tour takes about 5 hours from start to finish.

How difficult is this tour?

The climbing section is graded B on the Via Ferrata scale, which is manageable for most active people. The hiking part of this tour is on a classic Norwegian trail, with uneven rocky sections, loose stones, and occasional wet or muddy patches. You should feel comfortable hiking on uneven terrain with roots, rocks, and small boulders.

Location

The tour starts from basecamp with around 60 minutes of walking, before climbing for 20 minutes and continuing up the stairs for another 30 minutes. There we take our time for lunch, before returning via the return trail to Basecamp.
