Day 2: Wine and ... ? Olive oil!
Start your discovery of the Algarve in the city of Loulé. The town is mainly known for its beautiful produce market but has a lot more to offer. Discover old traditions and historic monuments, before enjoying free time in the market hall. Lunch time will be passed at a local winery, enjoying their wines served with tapas. In the afternoon, you visit an olive oil producer and see the sun set while cruising through the lagoon of Ria Formosa. A group dinner will be organised before returning to your hotel.
Day 3: Wine and ...? Pastel de nata!
A short, guided walk past the main monuments of Lagos takes you to the baking workshop. You will create the ‘pastel de nata’, the renowned delicious puff pastry filled with custard cream. The best reward for your efforts is of course the tasting at the end! Next up is a wine tasting in a nearby winery before heading for lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon you will be amazed by the beauty of the west coast: steep cliffs, vast beaches, evergreen scenery and breathtaking viewpoints, with the sunset at the End of the World as an absolute highlight. Group dinner in Sagres before returning to your hotel.
Day 4: Wine and ...? Canned fish!
The fish canning industry was a major source of income for the region in the 20th century. Today you visit a small working canning factory that strives to keep traditional recipes alive. Next up is a visit to the former capital of the Algarve, Silves, known for the Moorish fortress. A small port wine tasting is a perfect aperitive before heading to the winery to enjoy a meal with selected wines to each course. Following lunch, you visit an old canning factory turned into a museum to see how it was done in the early days. In the late afternoon, you are back in Lagos and have free time for the rest of the day. (Dinner at own discretion.)
Day 5: Wine and ...? Oranges!
You start the day with a short boat trip to the caves of Benagil. Observing the south coast from the sea is an absolute must when in the Algarve! Then you visit a farm, specialized in citrus fruits, where you pick fruit and vegetables from the gardens and enjoy a light rural meal before heading to a winery for the last wine tasting of your trip. Afterwards you have a bit of free time in Lagos or at your hotel before the last group dinner.
