Alesund the Ultimate Sightseeing Tour

DETAILS ABOUT THIS SCHEDULED GUIDED DAY TOUR:

From the meeting point, the bus will take you through several underwater tunnels to reach the first destination, the island of Giske. This island is relatively flat and very fertile. You will find many farms with grazing cows and sheep in the fields. Giske is known as the birthplace of the famous Viking Rollo, the first Duke of Normandy and an ancestor of the British Royal Family.

Next up is a visit to the beautiful island of Godøy and its typical fishing village of Alnes. Here, you can enjoy impressive views over the Atlantic Ocean, visit the lighthouse, or go for a relaxing stroll along the beach. A perfect stop for those looking to soak in the beauty of Norway’s coastal charm.

After exploring the islands, you’ll travel several centuries back in time to the years when most Norwegians lived modestly, relying on agriculture and fishing. At the Sunnmøre Museum, your guide will lead you through the open-air section which features around 55 historic buildings, some are open for you to peek inside. Inside the main building, several exhibitions showcase how life in this region has evolved over time, while the boathouses display traditional vessels and maritime heritage.

The tour continues with a drive through the city center, renowned for its Art Nouveau architecture. Most of these colorful buildings were constructed between 1904 and 1907, following the devastating fire that destroyed over 800 houses in January 1904. As you pass through the streets, you’ll get a real sense of the city’s unique character and history, with its beautifully preserved façades and charming details.

With wonderful memories of the islands and the city, the tour then concludes back at the meeting point.

NB: Due to new regulations from the city for Mount Aksla, there is an influx of new visitors to Alnes lighthouse. On some occasions our visit to Alnes may change from an inside visit to an outside or panorama visit.
