OVERVIEW, OR WHAT THIS TOUR MAKE SO SPECIAL?

This is the only tour from Kotor that visits Biogradska Gora National Park among all agencies. Even in Budva and Podgorica, it's challenging to find daily excursions to these destinations. Most agencies in Kotor focus on exploring the Bay and its surrounding areas, with the North, except for Durmitor, largely overlooked. Our agency stands out as it organizes daily excursions from Kotor, Budva, and Podgorica to every corner of Montenegro that can be conveniently visited in a single day. Biogradska Gora National Park is certainly one of those destinations. This tour also provides the opportunity to see the Moraca River canyon, which reaches a maximum depth of 1,000 meters.

The Moraca Monastery, the oldest monastery in Montenegro, is also featured on the tourist map. Biogradska Gora is a charming small national park with a lake at its center, perfect for exploring on foot or by rowing boat. The town of Kolasin is very traditional and offers some of the best traditional cuisine in Montenegro. Each part of this tour is unique and will leave you with lasting memories of Montenegro. Additionally, this region is not as commercial and crowded as the coastal areas during the summer, making it quieter and more pleasant. We encourage you to explore this part of Montenegro and to take advantage of this unique tour.

NOTE: The attractions on this excursion cannot be visited using public transportation in a single day, especially not within 8-12 hours.
 

WHEN AND WHERE WILL WE START?

The tour departs from Kotor at 7:30 in the morning, which is the standard time for all our trips. After a maximum of 45 minutes of driving, we will arrive in Budva, where we will pick up guests. We will arrive in Podgorica 60 minutes later, picking up the guests and continuing our journey. If guests take the private tour we will pick them up from their accommodations.

NOTE: The temperature in the summer season can be very high, above 35 degrees, so pay attention to protect your body with adequate clothes, skin with sun cream, and head with a hat. Always have enough water. 
 

WHERE WE WILL GO?

We will go to Moraca Canyon, Moraca Monastery, Biogradska Gora National Park, and The City of Kolasin.

MORACA CANYON (MORAČA KANJON)

After we start from Podgorica heading to Biogradska Mountain, the road will take us through the beautiful canyon of River Moraca. Moraca River has one of the most beautiful river canyons in Montenegro, which separates the Moracke Planine range (Moraca’s Mountains) from the Sinjajevina Mountain range and covers the south-eastern part of the central region of Montenegro. In 30 minutes of the ride, we will enter the deepest part of the canyon named Platije.

This canyon is smaller than Tara River Canyon but just as impressive. The length of the canyon is 35 km, and the depth reaches up to 1000 meters. For the drivers, this canyon is always a challenge. A narrow road with vertical giant cliffs from one side and a deep abyss makes the journey adrenaline. There is a safe car park lot in the deepest part of the canyon where we will make a photo stop and then we will continue our trip to the Moraca Monastery.

MORACA MONASTERY (MANASTIR MORAČA)

Monastery Morača is the oldest monastery in Montenegro from the 13th Century set in a spectacular position right next to the canyon of River Moraca. A stream that flows through the monastery's garden makes a lovely 25-meter-high waterfall Svetigora. Thanks to the power of the water the monastery has its own small hydraulic power plant.

This Orthodox Monastery was built in 1252 by Stefan Nemanja, the founder. The complex has two churches with frescoes from the 13th and the 16th of the century when the was monastery renovated. The lovely terrace by the waterfall always attracts visitors for a break with coffee served traditionally. The monastery has its production of honey which guests can buy in the monastery's shop as well as other religious souvenirs. After visiting the monastery we will continue to Biogradska Gora National Park.

BIOGRADSKA GORA NATIONAL PARK

Passing through the virgin forest where the height of some trees reaches up to 50 meters, we need 30 minutes of ride to arrive at Biogradska Gora National Park. It has in its heart a beautiful glacier lake known as Biogradsko Lake, which is surrounded by mountain peaks. Three of them are above 2000 meters in altitude.

Guests can take a few activities around the lake. The most popular is rowing in wooden boats, which last around 1 hour. Another activity is walking around the lake through paths into the forest of oak, beech, fir, and elm trees. Small bridges, gazebos, and educational sights are perfectly incorporated into nature. The third activity is watching birds in the lovely area of the Biogradska River. There are a few spots where guests can watch birds using binoculars.  Also, there are 80 species of butterflies which is 40% of the total number you can find in Montenegro.

For those who want to relax and enjoy nature, there are several wooden benches and tables, where guests can eat their food in the deep shade of the virgin trees as well as a traditional restaurant by the lake. After visiting Biogradska Gora we will go to the city of Kolasin.

KOLASIN (KOLAŠIN)

Kolasin is a small mountain town founded by Turks in 1651. It is surrounded by the Mountains Bjelasica, Sinjajevina, Vucje, and Komovi which transformed it into well known a Montenegrin ski center. Traditional houses in pedestrian streets, city squares, and mountain modern hotels make Kolasin very charming. Tara River flows by the town. The stunning Tara Canyon starts 20 km far away from Kolasin.

Nowadays Kolasin is a tourist center dedicated to ski tourism, and eco-tourism in the surrounding mountains, which includes many activities such as jeep safari, horse riding, mountain biking, climbing, and rafting on the Tara River. This town is also known for its very healthy domestic food which guests can try in traditional restaurants. After lunch, we will head back to Podgorica, Budva, and Kotor.
 

TOUR CONDITIONS 

The tour is organized by middle-class air-conditioned cars or minibusses. The price of the private tour is per car, not per person. The maximum number of guests in the car is 4. The private tour from Podgorica costs 200 euros, from Budva costs 250 euros, and from Kotor is 300 euros.

Private tours can depart any day depending on the availability of the guides. We give a discount for groups of more than 10 people.

THE PRICE DOESN'T INCLUDE

Guests can use their food and drink (breakfast and lunch are not mandatory).
 

NOTE: Guests who wish to bring their luggage on the tour and end the tour in either Kotor, Budva, or Podgorica can do so easily, provided we have guests from all three cities participating in the tour. There is no luggage fee.
 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

When guests make an online reservation, the card will be charged automatically only if a minimum group of 6 passengers is reached. If not achieved, the card will only be authorized.

If the minimum number of passengers is not found up to 12 hours before departure, the reservation is automatically canceled free of charge. Enjoy peace of mind knowing that there is absolutely no financial risk involved.
 

When the tour is confirmed guests will get the online ticket and a very detailed e-mail with all instructions about the departure point, type of vehicle, name of the driver and guide, phone numbers, etc. Guests don't need to print the tickets, they just need to keep them on their phones and show them to the driver, or guide.
