Day 1:
We head by four-wheel drive to Nabalesere village, where we sevusevu and visit their stunning waterfall. After lunch in Nabalesere we head on to Navai village at the foot of Mt Tomaniivi and overnight in a local homestay. We should have time to stretch our legs on a short stroll or do some birdwatching before dark. This is a great area for seeing many of Fiji’s endemic birds, and is recognised as an Important Bird Area.
Day 2:
We’ll breakfast and get on the track early with guides from the village looking after us. Three hours of walking/scrambling through some magnificent cloud forest, gets us to the summit of the highest mountain in Fiji, at 1,323m. On a clear day we’re rewarded with some magnificent views across Viti Levu. Afternoon tea and a dip in the river greet us back at the village before we return back to the coast.
Notes:
Talanoa Treks is Fiji’s only dedicated hiking company. We’ve set ourselves up to work closely with the communities you visit to reduce the impact and maximise the benefits of your trip. Your guides, hosts, food, and accommodation are provided by these communities. We believe your adventure should be great for you, and great for these remote villages!
There are few proper walking trails in Fiji. Our routes follow old paths between villages. These can be rough and muddy. A good level of fitness and a spirit of adventure are musts!
Please note that if the weather is very bad, we may need to change the itinerary for your safety.
